New Benefits for Medicaid-Eligible Children

Date Issued: 2/7/2019

Beginning January 1, 2019, as part of the Children’s Health and Behavioral Health Services’ transition to Medicaid Managed Care, three new Children and Family Treatment and Support Services (CFTSS) are offered:

  • Other Licensed Practitioner (OLP)
  • Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR)
  • Community Psychiatric Supports and Treatment (CPST)

CFTSS are available to all Medicaid-eligible children under the age of 21 who meet medical necessity criteria. These new services were developed to better meet children’s behavioral health needs, expand access to clinical treatment services, and provide a greater array of approaches for rehabilitative interventions. Providers of CFTSS are designated by the New York State Department of Health.

An OLP provides individual, group, or family therapy at home or in the community. PSR helps children relearn skills to help them in their community. This service was formerly called “Skill Building.” CPST helps children stay in their home and communicate better with family, friends, and others. This service was formerly called “Intensive In-Home Services,” “Crisis Avoidance Management & Training,” or “Intensive In-Home Supports and Services.”

You and your patients can find CFTSS providers by going to our online tool at emblemhealth.com/find-a-doctor. To access a brochure that can be shared with children, youth, and families who may be in need of these services, click here.
